|The Seventh China-EU High-Level Strategic Dialogue Held in Beijing|
On April 19, 2017, the seventh China-EU High-Level Strategic Dialogue was held in Beijing. State Councilor Yang Jiechi and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini co-chaired the Dialogue.
Yang Jiechi said that the strategic consensus reached by leaders of China and the EU on forging four major China-EU partnerships of peace, growth, reform and civilization is of immediate and far-reaching significance. To strengthen bilateral cooperation serves the common interests of both sides and is also significant to the international political and economic development.
Yan Jiechi pointed out that the Chinese side attaches great importance to the relationship with the EU, and will continue to firmly and always support the integration path of Europe's own choice. Both sides should adhere to the strategic orientation, uphold opening up and cooperation, stick to addressing problems with mutual trust and properly resolve differences and problems so as to jointly promote the sound and stable development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
Federica Mogherini said that EU-China relationship enjoys a positive, mature and vigorous development, which is an important factor in promoting world peace and development. To strengthen cooperation between the EU and China is beneficial to promote the interests of the two sides and improve global well-being. The EU is willing to follow the principles of mutual understanding and mutual respect, strengthen strategic communication and promote all-round cooperation with China.
The EU side expressed its support and willingness to actively participate in the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held by China. Both sides will gear up constructively and ensure the 19th China-EU Summit a complete success. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, investment, innovation in science and technology, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
As for the issue concerning the Article 15 of the Protocol on China's Accession to the WTO, the EU side attaches great importance to China's concerns and will comply with WTO rules. Relevant revision procedures have been initiated. The Chinese side values the EU's pledge and hopes that the EU could fulfill the relevant regulations as soon as possible and send a positive signal of maintaining a free and open multilateral trade system.
Both sides agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on global issues, continue to promote and improve global governance, and lead the globalization towards an inclusive, balanced and sustained development. Both sides stand ready to make joint efforts to promote the G20 Hamburg Summit for new progress based on the G20 Hangzhou Summit in 2016. The two sides agreed to jointly promote the implementation of Paris Agreement on Climate Change, as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and strengthen cooperation in security.
The two sides exchanged in-depth views on regional and international issues such as the Syrian issue, the Iran nuclear issue and the Korean Peninsula situation. Yang Jiechi expounded the principles and position of China on promoting peace talks, easing tensions and solving problems through political means. Federica Mogherini appreciated the efforts made by China and expressed that the EU side is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China.
