|Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra of Argentina Co-chair the Second Meeting of China-Argentina Inter-governmental Standing Committee|
On May 17, 2017, Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra of Argentina co-chaired the second meeting of China-Argentina Inter-governmental Standing Committee (Bi-National Commission (BNC)) in Beijing.
The reports on the work of nine sub-committees of the BNC covering politics, agriculture, national defense, forestry, forest resources, ecological protection, science, technology, health care, medical science, culture, nuclear power, and aviation were briefed on the meeting. Speaking of the BNC’s important role in implementing the joint action plan of the two governments and advancing bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields, the meeting decided to add sub-committees of education, sports and tourism into the BNC framework.
Wang Yi thanked President Mauricio Macri of Argentina for his attendance at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF), and appreciated Argentina’s important contributions to the success of the forum. Wang Yi pointed out that as representatives of emerging market economies, China and Argentina are important cooperation partners, and both sides should actively well implement the important consensus reached by the leaders as well as the outcomes achieved from this meeting, further deepen bilateral political mutual trust and strategic coordination, and take the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” as an opportunity to integrate development strategies, deepen exchanges in economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement, and improve the level of bilateral practical cooperation.
Wang Yi congratulated both sides on reaching agreement on the multi-entry tourist and business visas with the validity of up to 10 years, and affirmed Argentina’s willingness to fulfill its commitment on international obligations that the country has promised during the anti-dumping investigation. Wang Yi expressed that China supports Argentina in hosting the 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization as well as the 2018 G20 Buenos Aires Summit, and is willing to further enhance coordination and cooperation with Argentina in international and regional affairs.
Susana Malcorra congratulated China on successfully holding the BRF, and expressed that the participation of Argentina and other South American countries to the “Belt and Road” construction upon China’s invitation showcases the openness and inclusiveness of this initiative. Argentina applies to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and stands ready to actively participate in the “Belt and Road” construction, effectively implement the joint action plan between the two governments, enhance cooperation with China in international affairs, and deepen Argentina-China comprehensive strategic partnership, in a bid to benefit the two peoples.
Both sides agreed to hold the third meeting of China-Argentina Inter-governmental Standing Committee in 2019 in Buenos Aires of Argentina.
