Wang Yi: The Mutual Establishment of Representative Offices Between China and African Members of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Has Realized Full Coverage

On September 2, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Ministers who came from various African countries to attend the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) jointly held the inauguration ceremony for the representative office of the African Union (AU) in China and the Embassy of Burkina Faso in China at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Wang Yi announced at the ceremony that 54 African members of the FOCAC have established embassies and representative offices in China, thus realizing the full coverage of mutual establishment of representative offices between China and African members of the FOCAC. It fully demonstrates that China-Africa diplomatic relations have become increasingly closer with smoother communication and exchanges. It is also a vivid manifestation of vigorously developing China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Wang Yi noted that the AU is a banner for Africa's unity and self-improvement. China-AU relations are of importance strategic, demonstrative and practical significance. China is the first country outside the region that sends the representative to the AU and one of the earliest countries outside the region to independently set up the delegation to the AU. China is willing to, together with the AU, continue to deepen mutual trust and collaboration, enhance alignment of development strategies, and support the AU in playing a positive and constructive role within the mechanism of the FOCAC.

Wang Yi noted that Burkina Faso is a new member of the big family of China-Africa friendship. China-Burkina Faso relations have had a good start with exchanges and cooperation in various fields being conducted in a comprehensive manner since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries. President Xi Jinping and President Roch Marc Christian Kabore reached important consensus the day before yesterday, charting the course for the development for relations between the two countries. It is the people's will and the general trend of the times to stick to the one-China principle. We believe that there will be more and more countries join the circle of global friends of China.

Wang Yi pointed out that the Chinese side is willing to provide all convenience and support for the representative office of the AU in China and the Embassy of Burkina Faso in China to carry out work. It is believed that they will work with other African embassies in China to make positive contributions to deepening China-Africa friendship and cooperation as well as promoting the building and development of the FOCAC.
