|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Taro Kono of Japan|
On October 26, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at request with Foreign Minister Taro Kono of Japan in Beijing, who accompanied Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on his visit to China.
Wang Yi expressed that on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to China is of great significance to the development of China-Japan relations. The two sides should build more mature, steady and progressive bilateral relations on the basis of experience and lessons both countries have learnt so far. To this end, both sides should, first, consolidate the political foundation of China-Japan relations; second, implement the consensus on regarding each other as cooperative partners rather than threats with practical actions; third, earnestly manage and well handle various contradictions and differences; and fourth, promote exchanges and cooperation in various areas.
Taro Kono expressed that he is glad that Japan-China relations have returned to the right track and achieved positive progress. The Japanese side is willing to, together with the Chinese side, well implement the consensus reached by leaders of both countries, enhance communication and coordination, properly manage differences and deal with common issues facing the world together, in a bid to promote the sustained and stable development of Japan-China relations.
