Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi of Nepal

On December 13, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi of Nepal, who came to China for the 12th round of China-Nepal diplomatic consultation.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Nepal are friendly neighboring countries and have always respected and supported each other. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli's visit to China in June this year was a complete success, and the leaders of the two countries reached important consensus on building a China-Nepal community of shared future in the new era. The Chinese side is willing to continue to intensify high-level exchanges with the Nepalese side and welcomes Nepalese leaders to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to be held in China next year. Nepal is an important partner in the joint undertaking of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is believed that cooperation in joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative will inject important impetus into the development of bilateral relations and open up bright prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation. The Chinese side respects and supports Nepal's independent choice of development path and is willing to provide assistance within its capacity for Nepal's national stability and development.

Shanker Das Bairagi noted that the two communist parties of Nepal merged to form a stable government this year. The Nepalese side attaches great importance to Nepal-China relations. The Nepalese side firmly adheres to the One-China policy and highly values the Belt and Road Initiative. The Nepalese side is looking forward to enhancing high-level exchanges between the two countries and carrying out all-round friendly cooperation and hopes to continue to receive support and assistance from the Chinese side.
