|Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith of Laos|
On December 16, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith of Laos in Vientiane.
Wang Yi said, China and Laos are important close neighbors and friendly neighboring countries, and the bilateral relations now enter the best period. We are willing to work with the Lao side to, taking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership next year as an opportunity, the implementation of the major decision of jointly building a community with a shared future of strategic significance made by top leaders of the two countries as the direction, the promotion of China-Laos Economic Corridor cooperation plan, especially the acceleration of the construction of China-Laos railway as an impetus, and the China-Laos tourism year in 2019 as a platform, comprehensively push forward bilateral strategic communication, deepen practical cooperation, and intensify personnel exchanges, so as to propel China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership for continuous and forward-looking development.
Wang Yi pointed out that both sides should enhance strategic communication and make good preparations for the meetings between the two Heads of State and exchanges at all levels. The China-Laos Economic Corridor is a comprehensive embodiment of the results of the strategic alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative with the Laos' strategy of transformation from a land-locked country into a land-linked one. The two sides should lose no time to refine and improve the corridor cooperation plan, and strive to achieve implementation at an early date. The China-Laos railway is the leading project in the economic corridor, and the two sides should continue their close coordination and actively promote it in accordance with high quality standards. The two sides should work together to well host the China-Laos tourism year in 2019 and encourage more tourists to travel to each other's countries. Both sides should also enhance youth exchanges, cultivate more non-governmental friendly forces and consolidate the social foundation for bilateral relations.
Saleumxay Kommasith fully agreed with Wang Yi's positive comments on relations between the two parties and the two countries. At present, the two parties and the two countries enjoy close high-level exchanges, and the top leaders of the two countries made a decision of building a community with a shared future between Laos and China on the basis of "four-good" relations, charting the course for Laos-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new period. The Lao side is willing to work closely with the Chinese side to well plan and implement the consensus reached by the leaders, well build the Laos-China Economic Corridor, especially the Laos-China railway, as they are not only beneficial to Laos' economic and social development, but also play a positive exemplary role in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Lao side supports enhancement of bilateral non-governmental exchanges and expanding of two-way tourism to lay a non-governmental foundation for practical cooperation between Laos and China.
After the talks, Wang Yi and Saleumxay Kommasith jointly attended the signing ceremony of bilateral cooperation documents.
