|Wang Yi Meets with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh of Vietnam|
On December 16, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh of Vietnam in Luang Prabang Province of Laos, who was attending the fourth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Wang Yi expressed that China-Vietnam relations have maintained a sound momentum of development under the direct guidance of the leaders of the two countries. General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong exchanged historic visits last year, working out a top-level design for promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperation between China and Vietnam under the new situation. The strategic consensus reached by the leaders of both countries should be implemented at all levels in the two countries so as to lay a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations. Since the common interests of China and Vietnam far outweigh their differences, the two sides should continuously strengthen strategic mutual trust and deepen strategic cooperation, which is completely in the fundamental interests of the two parties, the two countries and the two peoples.
Wang Yi pointed out that looking forward to the next year, both sides should maintain the positive momentum of high-level exchanges, fully tap into the great potential of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, step up the strategic alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with the Two Corridors and One Economic Circle, and promote the substantial progress of cooperation projects in connectivity. We are willing to, together with the Vietnamese side, enhance communication, coordination and mutual support under the framework of the LMC, in a bid to further enrich the connotation of bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Both sides should properly control and manage maritime issue through friendly negotiation, and create a sound environment for the development of bilateral relations.
Pham Binh Minh noted that looking back on the year of 2018, Vietnam and China have made gratifying achievements in their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. The leaders of the two countries as well as departments at all levels have maintained close exchanges. The scale of bilateral trade has grown rapidly, and the trade structure has become more balanced. The Vietnamese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to make good preparations for the high-level mutual visits between the two countries next year, make good use of the mechanism for bilateral cooperation and coordination, cement communication and coordination in the LMC, and work together to properly handle the maritime issue, so as to promote the continuous development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
