|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand|
On December 16, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand in Luang Prabang Province of Laos, who was attending the fourth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Wang Yi expressed that China-Thailand relations have shown sound development momentum, with close high-level exchanges and cooperation in various fields, bringing tangible benefits to peoples of the two countries, and making "one family of China and Thailand" more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. In the new year, the Chinese side is willing to, together with the Thai side, enhance communication, make good planning, deepen cooperation, speed up the pace of cooperation in China-Thailand railway to achieve connection of China-Laos-Thailand railway at an early date, and actively expand trilateral cooperation, in a bid to promote greater development of China-Thailand relations in the new era.
Wang Yi congratulated Thailand on taking over the rotating chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It is believed that under the leadership of the Thai side, the building of ASEAN community will achieve new development and China-ASEAN relations will also be elevated to new highs. The Chinese side will give positive support to the Thai side in fulfilling its responsibilities as the rotating chair, and stands ready to steadily advance consultation on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea with ASEAN members, and push for the early conclusion of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations, speed up East Asian economic integration process, and jointly guard against unilateralism and trade protectionism.
Don Pramudwinai expressed that the Thai side is ready to, together with the Chinese side, continue high-level exchanges, deepen economic and trade cooperation, actively promote the construction of Thailand-China railway and expand trilateral cooperation in various forms under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. As taking the new rotating chair of the ASEAN, the Thai side is willing to play an active role in promoting the building of the ASEAN and the development of ASEAN-China relations. The Thai side is committed to concluding the RCEP negotiations within its term of rotating chair, jointly safeguarding regional peace and stability and promoting regional prosperity and development.
