2019-06-15

On June 14, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived in Dushanbe for the 5th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and a state visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.

At around 6 p.m. local time, Xi Jinping arrived at the Dushanbe International Airport by a special plane. When Xi Jinping stepped out of the cabin door, he was welcomed warmly by President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan. Tajik young women presented flowers to Xi Jinping and the guard of honor lined up on the both sides of the red carpet.

The two heads of state held warm talks. Xi Jinping thanked Emomali Rahmon for coming to the airport to greet him in the busy schedule of preparing the CICA Summit. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Xi Jinping extended sincere greetings to the government and people of Tajikistan. Xi Jinping pointed out that after five years, I once again set foot on this ancient and magical land and felt the deep friendship of the Tajik people towards the Chinese people as always. China and Tajikistan have been good neighbors, good friends, good partners and good brothers for generations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 27 years ago, China-Tajikistan relations have maintained sound and steady development. In 2017, President Emomali Rahmon and I jointly decided to establish the China-Tajikistan comprehensive strategic partnership, marking a new stage of rapid development of bilateral relations. My visit this time is aimed at pushing bilateral relations to a higher level. I look forward to having in-depth discussions with my old friend President Emomali Rahmon to jointly draw up a beautiful blueprint for the development of China-Tajikistan relations. The Chinese side is ready to make joint efforts with the Tajik side to push bilateral relations and bilateral cooperation in various fields to a new level and bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Xi Jinping stressed that the CICA Summit in Dushanbe is of great significance to the development of the CICA. All parties will discuss the plans for future development of the CICA and set priorities for cooperation. Tajikistan, as the chair, has done a great deal to prepare for this summit. It is believed that with the efforts of all parties, the summit will certainly be a great success and inject new vitality into the CICA's future development.

Emomali Rahmon happily recalled Xi Jinping's visit to Tajikistan five years ago. On behalf of the Tajik government and people, he warmly welcomed Xi Jinping's state visit to Tajikistan and his attendance at the CICA Summit. Emomali Rahmon wished the visit a complete success to push for better and faster development of bilateral relations.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and other delegation members arrived by the same plane.

H.E. Liu Bin, Chinese Ambassador to Tajikistan, also greeted Xi Jinping at the airport.

Xi Jinping arrived in Dushanbe after his state visit to Kyrgyzstan and attendance at the 19th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. When Xi Jinping left Bishkek, Prime Minister Mukhammedkaliy Abylgaziyev of Kyrgyzstan and others saw him off at the airport.
