|Wang Yi Meets with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn of Cambodia|
On July 30, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn of Cambodia in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wang Yi expressed, China and Cambodia enjoy a profound traditional friendship and have always understood and supported each other. Bilateral friendship has withstood all kinds of tests and remains as firm as a rock. In this year, China-Cambodia relations have kept the momentum of rapid development. The two countries took the lead as signing the action plan on building a community of shared future, which will play a guiding role and set as an example. We are willing to work with the Cambodian side to keep frequent high-level exchanges and actively push forward the cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative. Some media deliberately defamed the China-Cambodia cooperation, which is doomed to failure in the light of facts. Under the current circumstances, it is very important to enhance cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which conforms to the common interests of both sides. We are willing to make concerted efforts with all the ASEAN countries to make the Foreign Ministers' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation a success and jointly safeguard regional stability and prosperity.
Prak Sokhonn said, Cambodia-China relations have maintained steady and sound development. Cambodia is the first country to sign the action plan with China on building a community of shared future, which is a substantive measure taken by both sides to deepen the strategic partnership. He also expressed gratitude for the Chinese side's assistance to Cambodia's social and economic development as well as its support for Cambodia in choosing its development path independently. The Cambodian side is willing to join hands with the Chinese side to promote the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meetings to focus on cooperation and development, build consensus and deliver positive messages to the outside world.
