|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK)|
On August 1, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wang Yi expressed, President Xi Jinping met again with President Moon Jae-in in Osaka in June this year, during which they reached new important consensus, charting the course for development of China-ROK relations. The two sides should implement all the consensus, strengthen exchanges at all levels, deepen cooperation in trade, science and technology, finance and economy and other sectors, and accelerate the second round of China-ROK free trade agreement negotiation. China and the ROK should push forward China-Japan-ROK free trade area consultation, and carry out exchanges in Winter Olympic Games and youth and other people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The two sides should also enhance multilateral coordination and cooperation, jointly resist unilateralism and protectionism, and uphold multilateralism and free trade system.
Kang Kyung-wha noted, ROK-China relations enjoy sound development, with bilateral trade hitting another record high, and vigorous exchanges at all level and in various fields. For the next stage, the ROK and China will have a series of important high-level exchanges. The ROK side is willing to work with the Chinese side to make good arrangement and planning, further deepen cooperation in economy, trade and environmental protection, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and jointly uphold the multilateral trade system with the World Trade Organization as the core.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula issue and agreed that there have been some positive changes in the Korean Peninsula situation recently, and that all sides are launching a new round of interactions. The Chinese side supports the ROK side in eliminating disturbances, continuing its efforts in improving the relations between the ROK and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and playing a positive role in advancing the dialogue between the United States and the DPRK with an objective and just stance.
