Wang Yi Meets with Vice President Delcy Rodriguez of Venezuela

On September 27, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Vice President Delcy Rodriguez of Venezuela on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi expressed, global challenges are now on the rise and unilateralism and power politics are resurfacing, threatening world peace, stability and development. China's development means greater strength for peace and developing countries. China has always been committed to upholding fairness and justice and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, especially the rights of small and medium-sized countries in defending their sovereignty and independence. Unilateral sanctions, which violate international law, are unsustainable and unpopular. No matter how the situation may evolve, the Chinese side will continue to view and develop China-Venezuela comprehensive strategic partnership from a long-term perspective. China will always back the just cause of the Venezuelan government and the Venezuelan people for safeguarding national sovereignty and independence, national dignity, social stability and economic development.

Delcy Rodriguez extended her warm congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. She said, Venezuela is in a difficult period as it is now facing sanction threats from the United States and Western countries. China's sincere friendship and firm support are crucial to Venezuela and its people. Thanks to the concerted efforts of both sides, bilateral cooperation has been constantly advanced in recent years. China never interferes in other countries' internal affairs, advocates mutual benefit and win-win results, and proposes to build a community with a shared future for mankind. The Venezuelan side highly appreciates it. The Venezuelan side is committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation and strategic communication with China, in a bid to jointly safeguard respective national interests as well as world peace and stability.
