|Wang Yi Meets with High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini|
On October 24, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.
Wang Yi expressed, China and the EU offer each other chances for development, and our shared interests far outweigh differences. Both sides should continuously expand and deepen strategic cooperation and properly resolve differences in conformity with the spirit of mutual respect. In a world full of uncertainties, China and the EU, as the two important forces in the world, should hold high the banner of multilateralism, oppose unilateralism and protectionism, jointly facilitate the building of an open world economy, improve global governance and safeguard world peace, stability and prosperity. The Chinese side has always resolutely supported the European integration, supported the sustained growth of the EU and supported the EU in playing a more important role in international affairs. Next year will be a significant year in China-EU relations. On the 45th anniversary of the founding of diplomatic relations between the two sides, we should carefully prepare and complete a series of important bilateral political agendas and work together to elevate China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership to new highs.
Federica Mogherini said, in a world fraught with turbulences, the EU and China have more common interests than differences. The EU and China should adhere to multilateralism, safeguard international order and play the role of a stabilizer. In recent years, the EU and China have maintained close communication and coordination on major international and regional issues and coped with various global challenges together. Our cooperation is not only in the interest of both sides, but is also conducive to world peace and development. The new EU institutions will continue the keynote of highly valuing their relations with China, maintain the continuity and stability of contact, dialogue and cooperation policies, and stand ready to join hands with the Chinese side to design and prepare a series of major high-level exchanges, communication and cooperation next year, as well as exchange views in line with the spirit of mutual respect on relevant issues under the framework of advancing EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern including the Iranian nuclear issue and Afghanistan.
