|Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan Meets with Wang Yi|
On November 25, 2019 local time, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Tokyo.
Shinzo Abe said, recently, Japan and China have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges and positive progress in the improvement of bilateral relations. The Japanese side is eagerly looking forward to President Xi Jinping's state visit to Japan next spring, and believes that this visit will be a major opportunity to promote the building of Japan-China relations in the new era. A stable Japan-China relationship is the cornerstone of peace and prosperity in Asia and is also crucial to addressing current global challenges. The Japanese side is willing to work with the Chinese side to jointly create a new future for Japan-China relations. The Japanese side welcomes the launch of the high-level consultation mechanism on people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, and is willing to continue to boost affinity between the two peoples and properly handle sensitive differences to create favorable atmosphere and conditions for the improvement and development of Japan-China relations. I am looking forward to having further in-depth communication with Chinese leaders on bilateral relations during the China-Japan-Republic of Korea (ROK) Leaders' Meeting next month in China.
Wang Yi said, with the political guidance of the leaders of the two countries and the joint efforts of both sides, China-Japan relations have returned to the right track and continued to improve and develop. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had a successful meeting in Osaka in June this year and reached important consensus on building China-Japan relations that fit the needs of the new era. Bilateral relations have gone through twists and turns, and the present situation has not come easily and should be cherished with double efforts. Both sides need to promote the continuous improvement and development of China-Japan relations from a longer-term perspective and broader perspective. It is hoped that the Japanese side will meet the Chinese side halfway, take more positive actions, and properly manage and handle differences so as to create favorable atmosphere and conditions for the proposed major political and diplomatic agendas of the two countries. The improvement and development of China-Japan relations not only conforms to the interests of the two countries and the two peoples, but also has great positive significance for regional peace and stability. At the same time, it will also inject stability into the current world situation that is full of uncertainties. The Chinese side welcomes Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's attendance at the China-Japan-ROK Leaders' Meeting in China next month. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Japanese side to give full play to the role of the high-level consultation mechanism on people-to-people and cultural exchanges and open up a new era of more exchanges between our two peoples, localities and youth, and create a brighter future for China-Japan relations.
