2019-12-05

On December 5, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia in Seoul.

Wang Yi said, the Chinese side appreciates Mr. Ban Ki-moon's long-term devotion to upholding multilateralism and promoting the development of the relations between China and the Republic of Korea (ROK). In the current international exchanges, some superpower does not abide by international rules, nor fulfill its international obligations, but instead takes unilateral and bullying actions at will, becoming the troublemaker in the world. Under such circumstances, all responsible countries should join hands to defend multilateralism, uphold free trade and adhere to basic norms governing international relations.

Wang Yi said, China and the ROK are friendly neighbors and the current bilateral relations have maintained the development momentum. We are willing to work with the ROK side to consolidate political mutual trust, properly handle the problems we face, deepen exchanges and cooperation in all areas, and push China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

Ban Ki-moon said, State Councilor Wang Yi's visit has vigorously promoted the development of ROK-China relations. I look forward to even closer ROK-China cooperation in the future. China has made significant and positive contributions to combating climate change. I am ready to continue to play a constructive role in promoting ROK-China relations, coping with climate change and safeguarding multilateralism.
