|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia|
On December 16, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting in Madrid.
Wang Yi expressed, China and Indonesia are friendly neighbors and major countries in the region. Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The two sides should sum up experience, plan for the future, further strengthen coordination and cooperation at bilateral, regional and global levels, support each other and better safeguard the common interests of developing countries. China is firmly committed to greater opening-up to the world and all countries are welcome to share the development opportunities brought by China. As unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, we should safeguard multilateralism and free trade with concrete actions. The Chinese side is willing to work with all parties to sign the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement on schedule as soon as possible, and welcomes more quality products from all countries to the huge Chinese market.
Retno Marsudi noted, the Indonesian side attaches great importance to developing its relations with China, and is satisfied with close and friendly cooperation between the two sides. Indonesia hopes to maintain close exchanges with the Chinese side at all levels and to expand economic, trade and investment cooperation. Indonesia is ready to work with China and other relevant parties to sign the RCEP for mutual benefit and win-win results.
Wang Yi briefed Retno Marsudi on the development situation in China's Xinjiang region upon request. In particular, he outlined the measures taken in accordance with the law to prevent terrorism and extremism and the results achieved. Wang Yi pointed out, some Western forces have shown "extraordinary interest" in China's Xinjiang region, with the real aim of destabilizing the region and curbing China's development. Indonesians from all walks of life are welcome to visit Xinjiang, and the ill-founded rumor started by some Western forces will collapse.
