On January 15, 2020, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Takeo Akiba of Japan, who was in China for the 15th China-Japan Strategic Dialogue.
Takeo Akiba expressed, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the Japanese government attach great importance to President Xi Jinping's state visit to Japan this spring. During my visit to China for the Japan-China Strategic Dialogue, I exchanged in-depth views with the Chinese side on the preparations for President Xi Jinping's visit and reached new consensus. The Japanese side is ready to work with the Chinese side to ensure the complete success of the visit and usher in a new era of Japan-China relations.
Wang Yi said, under the new circumstances, China-Japan relations face important development opportunities. If President Xi Jinping's state visit to Japan this spring goes well, it will be a milestone for the future of China-Japan relations. It is hoped that the two sides will earnestly make all preparations, actively create favorable conditions and atmosphere and elevate China-Japan relations to a new height through the visit.
