|President Xi Jinping Speaks by Phone with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador|
On the evening of 10 April, President Xi Jinping spoke with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on the phone.
Noting the ongoing outbreaks in Mexico and other Latin American and Caribbean countries, Xi extended on behalf of the Chinese government and people heartfelt sympathies and firm support to the government and people of Mexico, and expressed his confidence in Mexico's ability to defeat the virus at an early date under the leadership of President López Obrador. China will continue to support Mexico wherever it can, including by facilitating Mexico's purchase of much needed medical supplies. The two sides could have more exchanges on control and treatment experience by expert videoconferences and other means.
Xi pointed out that in keeping with its vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, China has actively engaged in international cooperation against the virus and firmly supported the work of WHO. Referring to the four proposals he made at the Extraordinary G20 Leaders' Summit on promoting international collaboration against the virus and stabilizing the world economy, Xi reaffirmed China's readiness for closer communication and coordination with Mexico and other G20 members to deliver the consensus reached at the Summit. Xi shared his belief that through this joint fight against the outbreak, the friendship between the Chinese and Mexican people will be deepened and the strategic importance of bilateral ties further elevated. China stands ready to step up communication and coordination with Mexico at the UN and in other multilateral frameworks to jointly promote a community with a shared future for mankind.
López Obrador applauded China's valuable support and assistance as Mexico faces a testing moment in its fight against the outbreak, describing the support and assistance as very important. Sharing a longstanding, brotherly friendship with China, Mexico will stay committed to actively growing its relations with China and enhancing bilateral exchanges and cooperation in such areas as combating the virus and protecting public health.
