On September 16, 2020, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to Yoshihide Suga on his election as Japan's Prime Minister.
In his message, Xi Jinping stated, China and Japan are friendly neighbors and important countries in Asia as well as the world. The long-term stable, friendly, and cooperative China-Japan relations are in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and are conducive to peace, stability and prosperity in Asia and the world. The two sides should hold fast to various principles stipulated in the four political documents between China and Japan and honor the four-point principled agreement, and actively build bilateral relations that meet the needs of the new era, so as to bring benefits to our two countries and peoples and make positive contributions to maintaining world peace and promoting common development.
On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang sent a congratulatory message to Yoshihide Suga on his election as Japanese Prime Minister. In his message, Li Keqiang expressed the Chinese side's readiness to work with the Japanese side to strengthen friendly exchanges and practical cooperation in various fields to jointly promote greater development of bilateral relations.
