On November 16, 2020, Vice President Wang Qishan delivered a keynote speech via video link at the 2020 New Economy Forum.

Wang Qishan pointed out that the international situation has become more complicated since last year. The more difficult the time is, the more we need to work together as responsible partners. The international community needs to demonstrate through concrete actions its determination to uphold common interests and pursue common goals.

Wang Qishan stressed that China will face up to the changes, implement the new development philosophy, and focus more on realizing new historical leapfrog through the ways of domestic demand-oriented, quality-first and innovation-driven development, coordinated development, self-reliance and pursuing progress while ensuring stability. China will unswervingly expand opening up and make its market a world market, a shared market and a market for all. China, with concrete actions, is expanding imports, reducing investment restrictions, building a more law-based, international, and convenient business environment, exploring new horizons of opening up, promoting Belt and Road cooperation, and deepening multilateral, bilateral and regional economic cooperation, so as to make economic globalization more open, inclusive and balanced and beneficial to all.

Wang Qishan stressed that the logic of division of labor cooperation in the world economy and the trend of economic globalization have not changed. Disasters and difficulties should not be the dividing lines that separating the world apart, but a starting point for cooperation. All countries around the world need to take actions and work together to jointly build a cooperation mechanism for the prevention and control of COVID-19, uphold the spirit of science and concept of putting life first, and resolutely curb the spread of the pandemic. An innovation cooperation network of synergy and common progress should be built to reduce the barriers to the flow of innovation factors and promote the sharing of results. All countries need to jointly build an open world economy that benefits all, so that different countries, different social strata and different groups of people will benefit more from the development. A rational and inclusive social atmosphere needs also to be created, in which mutual understanding will be deepened through communication, trust will be accumulated through cooperation, and common progress will be made through mutual learning.

The forum, held in the form of video conference, is co-hosted by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, Bloomberg, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and the Mandela Institute for Development Studies.
