|Wang Yi and French President's Diplomatic Counselor Emmanuel Bonne Co-chair the China-France Strategic Dialogue|
On January 29, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and French President's Diplomatic Counselor Emmanuel Bonne co-chaired the 21st China-France Strategic Dialogue.
Wang Yi said, since its establishment 20 years ago, the China-France Strategic Dialogue has directly served the heads of state of the two countries and played a positive role in pooling consensus and maintaining the sound momentum of the development of China-France relations. Last year, China-France relations overcame the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and made new and important progress. The two heads of state have maintained close communication, continuously injecting impetus into bilateral relations. The two sides should continue to make full use of the dialogue under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state to promote the development of China-France relations along the right track. The two sides should always uphold the political foundations, such as mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs, consolidate strategic mutual trust, enhance the stability and predictability of bilateral relations, and inject more positive energy into an uncertain world. The two sides should step up innovative cooperation in the fields including new energy, digital economy, agricultural science and technology and green development, achieve synergy between strong countries, draw on each other's strengths, and explore more third-party cooperation, so as to add new dimensions into bilateral cooperation in the next stage.
Wang Yi said, China-EU relations go beyond the bilateral scope and have an important global influence. China supports the EU in upholding strategic independence, which serves the common and long-term interests of EU countries. The two sides should continue to hold high the banner of multilateralism and work for more international consensus. At the same time, both sides should guard against "cliques", "small circles", and "pseudo-multilateralism" in the name of multilateralism. As China and Europe have different systems, the two sides should respect the choice of their peoples, learn from and accommodate each other and jointly advance human civilization. China stands ready to work together with the European countries including France to carefully plan the China-EU high-level exchanges and important political agenda, deepen cooperation in such key areas as green and digital cooperation, make sure the China and EU always adhere to the peaceful coexistence, openness and cooperation, focus on dialogue and cooperation, and safeguard mutual benefits and win-win results, so as to promote the continuous development of China-EU relations.
Bonne said, China is an important strategic cooperative partner of France. France speaks highly of the mutual trust and exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and is satisfied with the cooperation between the two sides under the G20 and other multilateral frameworks in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting global economic recovery, transforming to green development and implementing the debt relief initiative for African countries. France firmly supports multilateralism and hopes to continue to strengthen communication and coordination with China on major global and regional issues such as vaccine cooperation, climate change and biodiversity. The EU-China relations go beyond the economic and trade sphere, which has a strategic significance. The strong EU-China relations serve the common interests of both sides. France supports the high-level cooperation between the EU and China, and is willing to continue to work with China to advance the development of the EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
The two sides agreed that it is good news for China and the EU to conclude negotiations on the investment agreement on schedule, and they are ready to speed up the follow-up work including the ratification of the agreement. The two sides support the positive outcomes and synergy achieved at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Kunming, the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties and other important international agendas, so as to take international cooperation on climate change to a new level.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue and other issues.
